Legionella and poor water hygiene present a significant risk in education settings where water systems are used daily. From taps and showers to storage tanks and pipework, inadequate control measures can allow harmful bacteria to develop, potentially leading to serious illness such as Legionnaires’ disease. This course provides schools with the knowledge and practical understanding needed to manage water systems safely and in compliance with current legislation and guidance.
Participants will learn how to identify and assess risks within their premises, understand the principles of water hygiene, and implement effective control measures such as temperature monitoring, flushing regimes, and record keeping. The course also explains the roles and responsibilities of duty holders and when specialist support or contractors are required. By encouraging a consistent and proactive approach, it helps schools minimise risks and maintain safe, compliant water systems.
